Sometimes a girl as just got to kick up her heels and float in a pool for a few days! That is exactly what I just did this weekend, and let me tell you it was worth a year of therapy. Im talking about self medicating child! I hear it all day, people are over-scheduled and just cant find the time to stop it all for a moment. These days what happens is our bodies do it for us by making us feel sick or exhausted. Well my point of this post is to challenge you to self medicate and get out of your life for a weekend. Yes that means away and disconnected, out of the office reply for your life for an entire weekend. Sometimes it seems to me if my blackberry would tell me to breath deeply... I would. So pick up a magazine about summer getaways and pick out your Self Medicating destination. I recommend a quite pool or a cabin in the woods, but whatever suits your tastes is fabulous. The goal here is to totally disconnect from your routine for a weekend, sounds easy but its not. For me the reward is totally worth the sacrifice. I am back to life looking at things through freshly cleaned glasses, and I love allot of what I see and know that some other things could use a tweak. So put down the Ambien take on my Self Medicating Challenge for a weekend soon, and leave some comments a maybe even send me a picture of your relaxing bliss!Theodore Leafhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10644772449482369407noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2967920030703611837.post-40437961125379915232009-05-13T11:42:00.000-07:002009-05-13T11:56:45.062-07:00<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dyk7qjpHWNLwg4X2YPVxUt_dhcFHgKbusoBcGDeus5pZVasQONrHs-dHWbnl41FGId97d_-gDYhhWmCsyrqAg' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe>Theodore Leafhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10644772449482369407noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2967920030703611837.post-85461719578279240202009-04-28T11:48:00.000-07:002009-04-28T12:07:53.818-07:00Grey Gardens on HBO<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNkbe-LPxo7mGndYbpWGvkXP161rkHyRPD4jmXm3if1PGvnskQ_VxjBk0XofBcJdR_7A9HmnbPQklpN0hAWXAsn6Mf8aJwPhlxQY2efiXX3QKilveWBM7Zi1m4oh3d6xiDUkBM8M_cSaI/s1600-h/grey+gardens.jpg"> <img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 164px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNkbe-LPxo7mGndYbpWGvkXP161rkHyRPD4jmXm3if1PGvnskQ_VxjBk0XofBcJdR_7A9HmnbPQklpN0hAWXAsn6Mf8aJwPhlxQY2efiXX3QKilveWBM7Zi1m4oh3d6xiDUkBM8M_cSaI/s320/grey+gardens.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5329817143495383858" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><span><span><span><span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;"><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>I simply do not know where to start, you just must see this film. I think i am going on my 6th viewing! It is so fascinating the sets, clothes and performances are to die for, you will love it! I am so inspired by the lifestyle shift that they had over the years. Its brilliant when the older woman (Big Edie) is surprised when her niece Jackie O drops in on their mess of a house. She immediately shifts her to the garden and says "are these chairs dirty?" and little Edie puts down paper for them to sit on.No sooner is Big Edie ordering Pâté for her distinguished guest. My big takeaway moment here is that even while they lived in filth, these women remained fabulous hostesses in their own little ways. So as we live our lives hopefully without tin cans stacked to the ceiling, we can remember to offer guests s little something to eat or drink, and give them a lovely clean place to sit.</span></span></span></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: '-webkit-sans-serif'; line-height: 82px; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: medium;"></span></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div>Theodore Leafhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10644772449482369407noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2967920030703611837.post-54951586353916919502009-04-28T10:23:00.000-07:002009-04-28T11:46:18.289-07:00Closet Confessions<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQQpvR-q5TWzLRwSHdiIhSIWEAouXo_J_05ugmooyBwhiXl-87aBG3mEhkoaSpeIgsJk8YpWE4X-eTD488lLJeE2EY0FqoECYikDGa-Ue0VdfhKlvPwQe5-f-SZv2JkoqCK6EOnDvFDFw/s1600-h/closet+light.jpg"><br /></a><br /><br /><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>We all have some skeletons in our closets, for some of us it happens to be our closets themselves. When you open the door do you feel like you should have a helmet on? Or maybe it has been so long since you have seen the floor you don't remember what it looked like... I must admit I have struggled with keeping a tidy closet over the years. Something finally clicked for me one day, I had just returned from a trip to Chicago where I had bought some new clothes. And when I went to put them in my closet it just didn't feel right, they had come from such a beautiful store and here they were being cast into my less than glamourous closet. So it hit me, the closet needs to look and feel more like the store, so we got to work. After years of buying little "organizing products" that don't work I realized that their are basics to buying:<div><br /></div><div>1: If its not strong it wont stay.</div><div>2: The way it looks is just as important as </div><div> how it works.</div><div>3: Spend more so you buy less often.</div><div><br /></div><div>So when we went shopping for this extreme closet makeover the options were simply endless, starting at the overwhelming <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/">Ikea</a> where I found this perfect piece for for fo<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size:medium;">lded clothing like jeans and t's :</span></div><div><br /></div><div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 250px; height: 250px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZJoWiC9NS6Pvs3l8FzywtHZo7ZIscYgKzVlfF0Qz7usLrTXmnEnJIBsGnUdaWYDALmCUbJgtxOiB4yi3Lo6r7CnfBPpoxRxnYGj4qvrW50zFiB9jBRASCyWQvFu_PlSkmevw8ELv2Hok/s320/bookcase+for+closet.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5329810068736787602" /></div><div>It is amazing how much stronger this "book case" is than something manufactured for a closet. We also found these in expensive lights (12.99) that were a breeze to install. </div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQQpvR-q5TWzLRwSHdiIhSIWEAouXo_J_05ugmooyBwhiXl-87aBG3mEhkoaSpeIgsJk8YpWE4X-eTD488lLJeE2EY0FqoECYikDGa-Ue0VdfhKlvPwQe5-f-SZv2JkoqCK6EOnDvFDFw/s1600-h/closet+light.jpg"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQQpvR-q5TWzLRwSHdiIhSIWEAouXo_J_05ugmooyBwhiXl-87aBG3mEhkoaSpeIgsJk8YpWE4X-eTD488lLJeE2EY0FqoECYikDGa-Ue0VdfhKlvPwQe5-f-SZv2JkoqCK6EOnDvFDFw/s320/closet+light.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5329811653108279010" style="float: left; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; cursor: pointer; width: 250px; height: 250px; " /></a><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>I was so surprised at how bright the white shelving and new lights made the closet look. White is the only color to do a closet in my opinion, because then your clothes take center stage. After it was all put back together again I felt like I was at Bloomingdale's every morning having a little shopping spree. So if your like me and you don't know where to start, take some inspiration from the pro's that put together your favorite stores.</div>Theodore Leafhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10644772449482369407noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2967920030703611837.post-7781716672404346092009-04-14T12:00:00.000-07:002009-04-14T12:15:54.569-07:00To Dim or not to Dim that really is the question.<div>When I wake up in the morning the last thing that I want to see is the bright lighting of a bathroom, let alone for dinner at 8pm after a long day. When I was thinking of this dinner I really wanted a very streamlined and modern look, with just the slightest touch of whimsy. This all started with the clementines stacked inside of the hurricane glass and went from there with a monochromatic orange color palate for the flowers from </span><a href="http://www.traderjoes.com/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'trebuchet ms';">Trader Joe's</span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'trebuchet ms';"> for $5.99. As I put out the dishes and silverware I was so excited that the navy blue anchor plates looked amazing in this whole scene. Since taking color theory in hair school I have been able to change colors in my head, very helpful when your getting highlights. However I also found that it comes in handy when I am shopping for vintage or second hand furniture. This entry piece above I found at a Goodwill store for only $75.00, after one look I knew it needed to be high gloss black. So with another $10 worth of metalic paint I am the proud owner of the sexiest entry piece ever! The next time you find yourself at a thrift store or a flea market take a moment, close your eyes and change the finishes in your head. You will be shocked what you can have for under $100.00!Theodore Leafhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10644772449482369407noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2967920030703611837.post-45995202114844035472008-12-03T15:46:00.000-08:002008-12-03T16:03:25.328-08:00Treasures for the table from our Big Bear getaway!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAd6J1MpIn63hQeodColJ_8qw9R8pIjNaC9g7NKtM8HPLaAaVPvKWG3owBwo2KgGIyoh82UF7f-uHbTdO-urEpfMg7vKVUQfErQfwp__U_8XDawhP1tV6Pf70TzouA3xXufcPafT477v0/s1600-h/IMG_3989.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAd6J1MpIn63hQeodColJ_8qw9R8pIjNaC9g7NKtM8HPLaAaVPvKWG3owBwo2KgGIyoh82UF7f-uHbTdO-urEpfMg7vKVUQfErQfwp__U_8XDawhP1tV6Pf70TzouA3xXufcPafT477v0/s320/IMG_3989.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5275716498214261554" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3Wd9o7TgCDyAB78hLcJ6BYTm9syfqINIw5u_EZiZbffH4AU_yhUPKPWd4DFJvBGTAw2dQk5Mtd-p2mq-086ijN2G1guAYjQmlPozfTFTnnWerMVKT2vE7mKLiKcvPaCr4OFe5TVFsL1M/s1600-h/IMG_3947.JPG"><br /><img style="text-align: right;display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px; " src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3Wd9o7TgCDyAB78hLcJ6BYTm9syfqINIw5u_EZiZbffH4AU_yhUPKPWd4DFJvBGTAw2dQk5Mtd-p2mq-086ijN2G1guAYjQmlPozfTFTnnWerMVKT2vE7mKLiKcvPaCr4OFe5TVFsL1M/s320/IMG_3947.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5275715196319523394" /></a><div style="text-align: left;">Whenever I am traveling around the country I always like to check out the local thrift & antique stores, to find what treasures they may be hiding. On this trip to the beautiful mountain town of Big Bear I stumbled upon this cluttered store that seemed to go on for days. I got this very unusual pine cone for only $2.00! I bought three of them and arranged them around the house to instantly create that warm holiday feeling. Not to mention the conversation about how unique and beautiful they are. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://www.bigbear.com">www.bigbear.com </a></div>Theodore Leafhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10644772449482369407noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2967920030703611837.post-31977064820883359322008-12-03T15:11:00.000-08:002008-12-03T15:46:39.398-08:00A Champagne Thanksgiving!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioYIh4uMRslDdUlD4EVEYa8ZhlbJqoOpY0frPT88Gu6DoQJ590sI3x7aQe7ywedmVtVsnbDu9KHCfhN1sXHYMxRPWlcy-ZuddUFhxsAtFmX6m6W8qRv-b0626z5FQMMEF2Pw1pN7EZGEQ/s1600-h/IMG_3964.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioYIh4uMRslDdUlD4EVEYa8ZhlbJqoOpY0frPT88Gu6DoQJ590sI3x7aQe7ywedmVtVsnbDu9KHCfhN1sXHYMxRPWlcy-ZuddUFhxsAtFmX6m6W8qRv-b0626z5FQMMEF2Pw1pN7EZGEQ/s320/IMG_3964.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5275711883653350002" /></a>After we bought this amazing farm table in August I have been on a mission to create the most fantastic thanksgiving. I only wanted 8 people total so we could all sit together, there is just something nostalgic about saying "please pass the mashed potatoes" It reminds me of home. I had some pretty stiff competition from my mother and aunt, they have put on some amazing dinners! Weeks ahead i was scouring all of my cookbooks, and online for the right the menu. when it was all said and done i ended up with three different potato dishes (sweet potato casserole, Au gratin, and of course mashed potatoes) and more desserts than you can shake a stick at! What i learned was its not about the perfectly balanced menu, its about the laughter around the table and creating a comfortable setting in our home.Theodore Leafhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10644772449482369407noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2967920030703611837.post-86419519957139806662008-12-02T15:38:00.000-08:002008-12-02T15:51:04.175-08:00Hollywood Housewarming (on a budget)<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dzmo7kWLulDYQS6cjdhMg9mmuw6rKWvY0TI9PKBaV2d_4U_Mxh6FOFUlaZ7dmqd3bL5juuzXRbTUiUmJ6IA' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe>Theodore Leafhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10644772449482369407noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2967920030703611837.post-38651589857283796022007-04-17T23:39:00.000-07:002007-04-18T00:02:42.526-07:00I just have to wonder what makes women feel bad for beauty? The <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">difference</span> between a model and a mom is not all about a waist size. Working with so many people daily has <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">truly</span> given me perspective on how different women relate to themselves and others.<br /><br />For example it is an actresses job to look amazing all of the time, every audition and trip to the market is a calculated opportunity to meet the right casting director or agent.<br /><br />The same goes for the single girl, on the market looking for Mr. right. She is more <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">likely</span> to spend time and money on her <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">appearance</span>, and make that a priority.<br /><br />All of these things can give people confidence and a great excuse to take some "personal time"<br /><br />The flip side is the married mom. This woman tends to leave her massage gift certificates in the drawer <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">underneath</span> the <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">Chinese</span> takeout <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">Menus</span>. Or re arrange a hair <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7">appointment</span> for sometime after soccer season. Until one day a mirror catches her eye and she can no longer see even a fragment of the girl she once was. She then rationalises and says to herself " i just cant take the time away from my kids" and " i had my time, and that has past". Well <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_8">sweety</span> if <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_9">that's</span> what your saying to yourself in the mirror, <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_10">that's</span> how your husband will see you. (her time has past, but my <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_11">Secretary</span>....) you know the story. However if this woman would simply embrace and seek out <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_12">opportunity's</span> to take a minute and freshen up a a bit, she would never give that outcome a fighting chance.<br /><br />I say All of that to say this. Its OK! beauty wont bite, Its OK ! to take some time to re-charge. Its <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_13">imperative</span> to not let go. Embrace it!Theodore Leafhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10644772449482369407noreply@blogger.com1
